Why This Course Exists

Many Nurse Practitioners report that while postgraduate training prepares them well for clinical assessment and diagnosis, the practical systems that support healthcare delivery — such as Medicare billing, MBS item numbers and documentation requirements — are less clearly explained during formal education.

This course provides a practical introduction to these systems and how they relate to everyday Nurse Practitioner practice.

Created by a Practicing Nurse Practitioner

As a Nurse Practitioner working in clinical practice, I saw many colleagues struggling to understand how Medicare and the MBS apply in real-world consultations.

This course was created to bridge the gap between university education and the practical realities of private practice.

While postgraduate education provided strong clinical knowledge, I found that there was limited practical guidance on how Medicare, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), and consultation documentation work in real-world clinical practice.

This course was developed to provide a practical introduction to Medicare, MBS item numbers, and consultation documentation to support Nurse Practitioners as they build confidence in autonomous practice.
